big game winter range

On Sunday, Sam & I went on an outing to the South Fork.  Our main mission was to see wildlife, with secondary gains established as wearing out West, and snowshoeing (I warned you it was here to stay). We definitely met all three goals, and decided that a hot thermos of coffee is one of life's simplest pleasures.  That, and making up wild turkey calls.

I wasn't able to capture it on film--
but we witnessed this eagle break off his branch in midflight,
and then carry on like it was no big deal.

I think this little critter counts as wildlife

snowshoeing season

Snowshoe fever hit pretty hard this year.  I think it's because snowshoes are like rain boots, waders, and snow pants--they make you feel invincible.  It's a good day when you can look down the trail and think, "I couldn't have done this otherwise".  It's official.  Snowshoeing is here to stay.  Here's a collection of photos from this year's outings, so far.

weekend

This weekend, Rachel drove down to spend President's day weekend with us.  On Saturday morning, we woke up early, drove to Ashton, and geared up to run the 5K snowshoe race that we've been training for, only to find that it had been cancelled.  We had a great morning despite the disappointment.  The main event of the day was the annual sled dog race.  I'm pretty sure West and Hoover (my dad's basset hound) were a little envious of the sled dog life.  We had a great day hanging out with Dad, Rachel and her boyfriend, Greg, even though he (Greg) refused to tackle the "Big Judd" hamburger after the dog races.  The nerve.

PS:  Sam missed the photo shoot...I think he was lost somewhere in the crowd at that point.  Actually, he ended up running into like 12 people he knew, so he was busy making the rounds.

winter weekend

Here is a sneak peek at some pictures from this weekend.  I took these on an evening ski with my lovely mother-in-law, Annick.  More on the weekend to follow.

year in review

2010 was good to us.  While it held it's challenges, it gave us many adventures and fond memories.  Here's a look back on our year, in pictures.

Happy New Year--here's to another wonderful 12 months.
